Day Two

02/08/2005

Today we continued on using the radio tracking equipment by ourselves.

This is great fun as I track around the bush using a radio transmitter  and antenna to get to a certain point within the bush. During the afternoon we went radio tracking as a whole group to find Equinox the echidna. We would of travelled around 700m to do this. Dr Peggy the scientist tracked the echidna and it was down in it's burrow so we were unable to see the echidna. We then walked back to camp and decided to ckeck on Big Momma - another echidna that has been on the island for along time. When a new echidna is found at the Pelican Lagoon Research Centre who ever discovers the echidna gets to name it- very exciting!!!

When we tracked Big Momma she was out of her burrow moving around so Dr Peggy picked it up and we all got to see the echidna. I wil post the photos under the photo's section. It takes around 300 hours on average to find an echidna , so we were all very fortunate to find Big Momma!

Have fun at school and I look forward to hearing from you all.

Ms Kelly.
