Through this lesson you will identify and classify animals that are a part of the ecosystems that exist on Kangaroo Island.
1. Write down what types of animals you think will be found on Kangaroo Island. Give reasons for each of your predictions. For example: I think there will be Kangaroos because of the island's name. I think there will be geckos because there are trees on the island and geckos like trees.
2. Using the information you find through accessing the website Forum, collect data on the following groups of animals.
Mammals/marsupials:
Birds:
Reptiles:
Insects:
Amphibians:
Other (including any introduced species):
If there is information you need that has not been covered through the Forum, then submit your question/s for us to answer.
Once you have identified the animals that live on Kangaroo Island, use the school library to locate books that provide information on each type.
Provide a short description of each of the animals you have identified. Include information such as:
- The name of the animal.
- What it looks like/how it moves.
- It's habitat (burrow, tree).
- What it eats.
- Any other interesting facts.
Keep your data in a safe place as we will be discussing it as a group when I return.
