Answer from Mr Simon
What a good question! I asked Peggy, and she said “Yep”. The hatchling echidnas (called ‘Puggles’) do go to the toilet in their mother’s pouch, and guess what? The mother then LICKS it all clean – don’t you wish you were an echidna?! This is actually the same in marsupials: kangaroos, wombats, bandicoots – they all do it.
The other teachers here are all interesting. They range from 23 years old up to about 55 and some of them have absolutely dazzling knowledge about plants and animals. If you know Mick (Mr Michael) from Jigalong or Phil (Mr Docherty) from Broome – they are both amazing with plants and have competitions to see who knows more. Mike and Peggy are lovely and just know so much – they’re great to spend time around. Everyone is friendly and we all have had some good laughs.
