Highlights from Day 3

03/08/2005

Highlights for the day - trying to find more echidnas and learning how to take the body temperatures of goannas from transmitters implanted into the goanna!

Here I am weighing "Big Mama" - a female echidna - I told some of you she was 18 years old, but she is actually about 40 years old - older than me (ha ha!). This was the day before.

"Big Mama" weighed 4150 gms. How many kilgrams is that? It wasn't easy holding her up to get the scale to eye height! Why did I have to do that? (Think back to other times we have to do that in the lab).

She doesn't have a puggle as she had one last year - echidnas don't breed every year - a bit like turtles.

Hope you are enjoying my trip. Hopefully I will be able to put up a really cute picture of a puggle later today or tomorrow.
