Lesson One - The Flora and Fauna of Kangaroo Island

Susie Bedford

Many people in Australia have not visited Kangaroo Island. It is my first visit and I am very excited about going there.

In this lesson you will be accessing the Kangaroo Island tourism web-site which has all the type of information that someone who is thinking about visiting the island might want to know.

You will be accessing this internet site to find out about the range of flora and fauna of Kangaroo Island and a little a bit about the island, where it is and what its climate is like.

Your teacher will hand out the worksheets that I prepared before heading to Kangaroo Island.

What you and your partner need to do for this lesson:

  1. Access the following web-site  http://www.tourkangarooisland.com.au   to find the information you need to answer the questions on your worksheet.
  2. Once you have accessed the web-site click on the link "Click Here for the Visitor Guide". You will then be on a page called "Kangaroo Island" where you can see a series of links on the left hand side of the page - the first link is called "Nature's Pleasure at a Glance"
  3. Use this page to find the information to answer the Worksheet questions in the section called "General Information about Kangaroo Island"
  4. For the section on Wildlife - click on the "Flora and Fauna" link
  5. To answer the worksheet questions on birds clink on the "Birds Link" at the top of the page
  6. To answer the worksheet questions on  "Wildflowers"
  7. Click on the link to "Ligurian Bees" and write a summary about these special bees.

Hope you enjoyed this lesson and that you learnt a lot.
