Lesson Two - Miss Cass's class

02/08/2005

Welcome Miss Cass's class. We have been working together to introduce and collect background knowledge for our Kangaroo Island project. Our first session involved discussing what we would be doing and some information about Kangaroo Island. Then you had a brainstorming session in your groups to come up with a 'what we know' and 'what we want to know' about Christmas Island and Kangaroo Island so that we could compare their ecosystems.

Before we start on the questions.

You might want to write down the meanings of the following words that we discussed.

  • ecosystem
  • endemic
  • sustainability
  • eradicate
  • mammal
  • monotreme

Because you did such a great job of coming up with so many questions I am going to get you to help me answer them.

You can use this site and the one listed along with the information sheets I gave your teachers to see how many you can answer for yourselves.

You might want to go back into your groups and share the questions to save time.

Your questions were:

  • How many layers are there on KI?
  • Are there any rare species of animals on KI?
  • Is there phosphate on KI?Does KI have a similar habitat to CI?
